More About Millie
Millie has been
training and coaching clients toward a healthier, more fit lifestyle
for over 30 years. She made a career change in 1982 when she went from
beng a computer programmer for the Dept. of Defense to being a fitness
professional. She entered the fitness industry first as an aerobics
instructor and then the Fitness Coordinator (managing the fitness class
program as well as designing and teaching classes) for one of the
largest multi-purpose clubs in the Metropolitan D. C. area. She then
was transferred to Denver, CO where she was not only the Fitness
Coordinator, but she was instrumental in developing instructor
certification programs (standardizing safe and effective practices for
fitness class instructors) for area clubs. She was also an aerobic
competitor, claiming the titles of "Denver's Most Physical Female" in
1984 and regional winner of the Crystal Light Aerobics Championship
(later to become the Reebok Aerobics Championship) in the Mixed Pairs
Division.
Loving the fitness industry, she decided to expand her
expertise into the sales and marketing arena and became one of the top
producers for another major multi-purpose club in the Denver area. She
then decided to come back "home" to the D.C. area, where her family is,
and became the Director of the Watergate Health Club in the Watergate
Hotel. Being a single mother at the time, Millie then took a position
that would not only eliminate an hour commute (either way) into the
District but also got her back into the large club atmosphere that she
so enjoyed. She began doing pre-sales (hard-hat tours and the works)
for a new 114,000 sq. ft. club in Herndon, VA, only 10 minutes from
home. There she became the top sales performer before becoming the
Member Services Director where it was her job to "retain" members by
helping them accomplish their goals. She was instrumental in the
development of the Monarch Approach which was a coaching program
offered to every new member who joined the club in an effort to have
more people be successful with their health and fitness goals.
|
Still
growing and learning, she found herself in Southern California where
she got certified as a Personal Trainer and made it her lifelong goal
to become a specialist in the area of helping people to lose weight and
get fit, healthfully and in such a way that they could sustain for the
rest of their lives. She developed the weight management program for a
very large fitness facility (17 acres including the outdoor tennis
courts!) and when she returned again to the D.C. area, she did the same
thing in two area clubs. Her passion for helping people with the issue
of weight loss continued to grow and she was tasked with creating,
developing, and executing a new weight loss program that combined the
eating and exercise components and that would be financially lucrative
for the club. So the "Eating, Exercise and Energy!" Program was born
and Millie was the sole creator, marketer and executioner of it. It was
tremendously successful (revenues exceeded $100,000.00 the first year)
and continues to be so today. Millie also became a Continuing Education
Provider for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and was teaching
and training other trainers on how to be experts in weight management. Still
having the passion to touch more people and help them with the health
and fitness aspects of their life, she enrolled in a coaching training
program. Now she could not only teach people how to exercise and eat
correctly, but she could assist them on their path to discovering the
lifelong changes that they need to make in order to sustain a healthy
lifestyle forever. She also became Weight Watcher Leader as it afforded
her an opportunity to help lots more people at one time than the
one-on-one training environment does. She continues to do the "Eating,
Exercise and Energy!" Program at the club part-time and lead Weight
Watchers meetings part-time, because she is passionate about both of
them, so that she can spend most of her time in the arena of coaching
her clients to their success. Millie serves clients in the Great
Falls, Reston, Herndon, Potomac Falls, Ashburn, and Sterling areas.

Testimonials
"Millie truly cares about each of her clients and wants them to succeed as much as they want to succeed. She shares her vast knowledge about fitness and weight loss during each of our sessions. Often times, it is just the thing I need to hear to keep myself working toward my goals. Millie goes way beyond what any other trainer will do with her personal approach and by providing informative articles and recipes, challenges and many other things." - Christy Anderson
Mary has been working out with Millie since 1995. She had previously worked with a personal trainer who had moved out of the area and got connected to Millie.
Mary wanted to be fit and lose some weight. She was very consistent with her workouts but she still was not losing weight. Her Midwestern cooking and history of never having to be concerned with her weight seemed to get in the way of her achieving her goals. She actually went through a period of time where her weight was going up.
Mary spent the next few years trying a variety of methods to help her with her weight loss. Through it all, she continued to do her strength training workouts 3 times a week. She also began doing cardio training with Millie to add that extra calorie burn into her life. She had a major breakthrough when she took a weight management class with Millie and began recording her food intake. She learned how to make better food choices without giving up favorite foods. Mary then continued to lose weight by making both her eating and activity choices priorities in her life.
Mary continues to be an awesome example for anyone in their "prime of life" who wants to be better in their 50's than they were in their 40's or 30's. She works out regularly, doing her strength work with a group in Millie's studio, taking a yoga class once a week, and getting her cardio in whenever she can, on her treadmill at home or outside walking. She continues winning the never ending battle of making better eating choices and her efforts are obvious. - Mary Hutchinson
